On Tuesday, International Women’s Day, The English School, Nicosia will honour 16 Cypriot women who have contributed to art and literature.
The English School Greek Literature Club will host a photography exhibition on Women in Cypriot Society in collaboration with the Justice Project also at the event.
Forty photographs which featured in the Second Sex photography exhibition at ARTos Cultural and Research Foundation in December will be featured.
The photographs focus on the experiences of women in Cypriot society. Each photo represents women in their full potential while simultaneously exposing the dire patriarchal pressures to which they are subjected by the society around them.
Featured works capture and explore a broad range of themes, including womanhood, empowerment, emancipation, success, sexuality, angst, objectification, crime, violence and suffering.
The exhibition is part of The Justice Project, a project which runs national campaigns to advocate for change and raise awareness about issues related to women, LGBT people, ethnic minorities and refugees in Cyprus.
