Three remanded for hotel robbery

Three men were remanded for eight days on Saturday in connection with the suspected theft of goods worth more than €50,000 from a hotel room in Oroklini, Larnaca and two other attempted robberies earlier in the day.

Larnaca district court served the remand for the EU nationals aged 20, 22 and 28 to give police more time for questioning.

According to a report filed by two women to police on March 13, their hotel room on the Larnaca-Dhekelia road was broken into while they were away. Items worth more than €50,000 including gold rings, earrings, watches, a mobile phone, €800 in cash, car keys and two sunglasses were stolen from the room.

Early on Saturday morning, the three men allegedly tried to rob one hotel but ran away when they were spotted.

Shortly afterwards, police received a call from a waiter at another hotel saying three men tried to steal cash from the restaurant’s till. They tried to run away however the waiter managed to catch the 22-year-old.

The suspect admitted his guilt and named the other two men who police found roaming the area.

They too admitted to the robbery and attempted robberies, handing over the gold items they stole on March 13.
