Homeowner fired shots in the air after ‘hearing noises’ outside his house

Police were called to Pyla village in the Larnaca district on Saturday night after receiving report of shots fired.

Officers from Oroklini went to the area around 9pm and established that the shots had been fired from the balcony of a home owned by a 36-year-old man.

He admitted to police that he had fired two shots into the air from a hunting rifle after hearing noises outside his house. He said thieves had previously tried to break into his home.

Police searched the house and grounds with the owner’s consent and recovered two spent cartridges. The hunting rifle belonged to the man’s father.
