British soldier killed in hit-and-run

A British soldier from Dhekelia, 33, was killed on Saturday night in a hit-and-run.

According to police, the incident happened around 8.30pm on the Famagusta-Larnaca road, 100 metres from a petrol station in Dhekelia.

The unidentified driver was heading towards Larnaca. Under circumstances being examined by police, the car hit and fatally injured the solider who was walking with a comrade in the same direction as the car was travelling.

The driver did not stop. Bases authorities have asked Cyprus police to help track down the car.
