Russian woman drowned

Nissi beach

A 48-year-old woman who was found floating unconscious in the sea off Nissi Beach on Sunday died from drowning, a post mortem revealed on Monday.

The woman, who was identified as Russian tourist Marina Suzdalcheva, was pulled out of the sea by life guards on Sunday afternoon and transferred by ambulance to the accident and emergency department at Famagusta General Hospital where doctors certified her death.

According to swimmers at the beach at the time the sea was calm when she was found.

Police said Suzdalcheva had been holidaying in Ayia Napa with her husband and child.
