A minute with

A minute with Savvas Christou Producer, writer and director

Where do you live?
I live in Burbank, CA (Los Angeles area), for the past two and a half years.

Best childhood memory?
Rehearsing and performing as a drummer with our rock band Tutankhamun with my childhood friends.

Most frequented restaurant and absolute favourite dish? What food would you really turn your nose up to?
My favourite restaurant when I was young was Pizza Mia in Limassol. I’m a big fan of the Italian cuisine. I love pasta and pizza – but my absolute favorite dish is “pasta with tuna” by my mom’s hands only. I don’t like anything that has avocado in it (unlike everyone around me).

What did you have for breakfast?
Sometimes my mind is full with the tasks of the day and I forget to have a proper breakfast. But today I had cornflakes with milk.

Would you class yourself as a day or night person? What’s your idea of the perfect night/day out?
I’m definitely a night person. The perfect night out for me is to hang out with friends in a nice rock bar and have random discussions, or to watch a movie with friends and talk about it later.

Best book ever read?
When I was younger I was obsessed with RL Stine’s Goosebumps series. I read about 20 books of that collection – very engaging with a great sense of how to play with the readers’ emotions – spooky.

Favourite film of all time?
The Shining, hands down. I’m a big fan of Stanley Kubrick. I was 13 years old when I first watched it and since then I probably have watched it around 20-30 times, maybe more. I still watch it when I really want to watch a good film.

Best holiday ever taken? What’s your dream trip?
Best holiday I had was a trip to Amsterdam with my friends. The reason is clearly because after a very long time all my childhood friends, the people I grew up with, managed to group up together. My dream trip is a big tour around Latin America.

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
I’ve been loyal to the good classic rock all over these years – Led Zeppelin, ACDC and sometimes I turn to more alternative groups such as The Strokes, Muse.

What is always in your fridge?
If you had asked me two years ago I would have said beers, but now – as a more “mature” person – I always have ketchup.

Dream house: rural retreat or urban dwelling? Where would it be, what would it be like?
Well, I would love to have both. haha. But I would say a nice place in the city where I would be closer to work and friends.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
Stanley Kubrick or Wes Craven. I would love to have them share their experiences with me and then maybe give me their 2 cents to become a better director.

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
If the option to live was non existent (otherwise, in that case I would fight for it), I would hang out with my family and friends. Maybe a nice dinner and play games for fun.

What is your greatest fear?
I have a lot of fears. I’m claustrophobic and I’m afraid of heights. I avoid using elevators, even if I’m going to the 7-8th floor. In case it’s higher than that, I suddenly start to like elevators.

Tell me a joke…
A Cypriot, A British and a French are captured by the Zulu. They go to the king of Zulu, he takes a good look at them, and he says: “Why are you guys here again?”
