Shop owner charged after years of ‘stealing’ electricity

Police charged a 39-year-old owner of a convenience store in Limassol after the electricity authority (EAC) reported that he had used €33,000 worth of electricity over 7.5 years without paying for it.

The EAC had discovered the ‘theft’ in October last year and reported the man to police on Tuesday.

They told police he had allegedly tampered with the meter, which was made to indicate a lower consumption between April 2011 and October 2018.

Police arrested the man on Tuesday. He was charged and released to be summoned to court at a later date.
