Coronavirus: Record number of checks net 140 violators

Police carried out more than 14,500 checks for violations of coronavirus protocols in 24 hours from Thursday until 6am on Friday, issuing fines to 138 individuals and two businesses.

The record number of 14,596 checks was broken down as follows:

Nicosia: 3,236 checks, 28 booked

Limassol: 5,466 checks, 43 booked

Larnaca: 1,105 checks, 31 booked

Paphos: 1,103 checks, 12 individuals, 2 businesses booked

Famagusta: 1,409 checks, 22 booked

Morphou: 821 checks, nobody booked

Traffic police carried out an additional 1,165 checks and handed out fines to three individuals, while 249 checks by the rapid response unit and 42 by marine police did not result in any bookings.
