Coronavirus: 314 new cases, no deaths (Updated)

New positive cases of the coronavirus spiralled to 314 on Monday, reflecting a positivity rate of 0.84 per cent.

No deaths were announced, but 53 people were in hospital with the virus, of whom 17 were in serious condition.

Of the 37,546 tests which were carried out on Monday 6,221 were PCR tests and the remaining 31,325 were rapid tests.

The government’s 30,894 free rapid tests picked up 223 positives while six positives were identified from 431 rapid tests taken privately.

As for the PCR tests, 368 contact tracing tests identified 28 positives while 1,423 PCR tests taken privately found 32 to be positive.

There were nine positives from the 4,115 tests at airports and 16 from the 304 hospital tests.

Famagusta’s positivity rate shot up to 2.06 per cent (58 positives from 2,810 tests) and was over double second-placed Larnaca’s 0.72 per cent (31 positives from 4,309 tests).

Nicosia’s rate was at 0.65 per cent (75 positives from 11,531 tests), followed by Limassol’s 0.56 per cent (43 positives from 7,293 tests) and, finally, Paphos’ rate was recorded at 0.45 per cent (13 positives from 2,858 tests).

No cases were identified at nursing homes.
