Wishing beaches were clean

mazotos

Summertime certainly means beach time. Yet nobody wants to be sunbathing and snorkelling amid empty plastic cups, cigarette butts and all other sorts of rubbish that unfortunately decorate our crystal clear beaches these days. With this in mind and caring for the environment, Young Cyprus Greens, Ecological Movement Cyprus, Center for Social Innovation and RESET are organising an annual beach clean-up campaign under the slogan Wish You Were Clean VOL II.

Four beach clean-ups across Cyprus are being organised to tackle pollution and preserve the natural environment and this Sunday marks the second event. The organisers invite participants to Mazotos Beach at 9am to spend a few hours before the summer heat kicks in and pick up trash. There will be antiseptics at the campaign’s sorting and counting station and all materials (gloves and bags) will be provided by the organisers of the campaign.

During the clean-up the collected waste will be sorted according to the model of the Italian Legambiente organisation. Volunteers can sign up via the forum found on the Facebook event (Wish You Were Clean VOL II) and should have with them a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle – a must for beach time, whether lounging or cleaning!
