Weekend full of events to look forward to

street food fest

Events have finally picked up again and this weekend too several things are happening so here is a short guide of what’s on.

A Street Food Festival is likely to put everyone in a weekend mood. Taking place on Friday 5 and as part of the ΗΟRECA – Gastronomia Expo 2021, a street food fiesta will see foodies gather. From 6pm to midnight, food trucks, DJs, cocktail bars and food lovers will meet at the Cyprus Expo grounds in Engomi. In a specially-designed area, the food festival will explore new tasty arrivals, food trends and staple street food obsessions.

In an entirely different mood, Layia Village Crafts is hosting a packed morning of workshops at its place in the Larnaca village. From 11am to 1pm and from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, those interested in getting crafty and creating goods from scratch will have the chance to learn how to make small wooden creations such as keyrings, tiny bee hotels utilising naturally sourced items, do acrylic painting on shaped wood or decorative decoupage. And all of this for free as the workshops are funded by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and happen every Saturday. Just make sure to book a place by calling 97-643541 or e-mailing [email protected].

Also happening on Saturday is a special pop-up event for curly-heads. Boucles Project, Cyprus’ first online store with eco-friendly hair products for curly hair, is organising a pop-up shop at City Plaza’s second floor this Saturday with exclusive discounts and hair consults. On from 10am until 6pm, curly-heads will not only get to stock up on favourite products but they will also get to exchange old products that they don’t want with another one that someone else will leave behind. A curly products swap!

Over at Evergreen Vegan & Vegetarian restaurant within the Nicosia Municipal Gardens an all-day arts & crafts bazaar will be on featuring all sorts of local creatives. At this festive bazaar, running from 11am to 5pm, you will find items such as illustrations, paintings, second-hand clothing, jewellery and more artsy and craftsy creations.

For juicy jumbo burgers, finger-licking meaty dishes and good music head over to Serial Griller on Saturday evening. Along with the signature menu, the Bar & Grill will host the Funked Up Project for a live performance at 8.30pm. The Funked Up Project is a creative, unconventional and explosive band, put together by three friends who share the same thing; love for music! It started a few years back as an idea that eventually became reality, with the sole purpose of making fine music. Saturday’s setlist includes rock, jazz, blues and funk songs, including original work which is coming soon.

Come Sunday and Limassol has its own crafty celebrations as another market full of handmade goods awaits. Held at Sto Dromo Bar, various artists will set up stalls selling handmade ceramics, laser-cut creations, jewellery, illustrations, t-shirts and more from 5.30pm onwards.

Back in Nicosia, popular cocktail bar Lost + Found Drinkery will celebrate its 8th birthday with a lively event on Sunday. Special cocktails, delicious bites, collectible birthday t-shirts, music and gifts will be on non-stop throughout the event. Crew from the 42 Barstronomy Athens bar will do a guest shift and the special element of the evening will be a Volcan Tequila tasting and food pairing.
