Reaction to Christodoulides’ presidential bid

Nikos Christodoulides’ bid for the presidency drew swift reaction from Disy’s candidate Averof Neophytou who described the former as “a candidate of the opposition” who is seeking to alter the correct course of the country.

Elsewhere, President Nicos Anastasiades also quickly commented on the foreign minister’s announcement on Thursday, with the president reiterating his support for Neophytou and praising his leadership qualities.

Anastasiades said, however, that he will not comment either negatively or positively on candidates, despite having praised Neophytou. The president added that he will not get involved in public spats on the election.

For his part, Neophytou on Thursday said that Christodoulides’ announcement does not constitute news, adding that he will “continue to work towards the Cyprus of tomorrow”.
