Arrest for possession of false licence plates, theft, illegal entry

Police arrested a 41-year-old man at around 9am on Sunday morning, following a check at the facilities of a former factory in Aradippou, after receiving a tip-off on suspicious persons loitering inside the building.

The 41-year-old man was found inside the premises apparently having driven himself to the location.

Upon being questioned by the police the man could not give a satisfactory explanation for his presence in the building, and he was lead with his vehicle to the police station for further examinations. With his consent, his vehicle was then searched, turning up a number of burglary tools, and three license number plates belonging to two other vehicles.

 Further examination revealed that the registration plates fitted to the 41-year-old’s car were stolen, while two of the three plates previously found were the vehicle’s actual number plates. It was also determined that the third license plate was that of a rental vehicle and had been reported missing.

 The 41-year-old was charged in writing with the offenses of theft, possession of burglary tools, illegal entry into property, and replacement of distinctive vehicle identification marks for the purpose of falsifying his identity. At the same time, he was also accused in writing of traffic violations, after it was found that he was driving his car, without an insurance certificate, as well as with a vehicle license that had expired in December 2021.

The case is under ongoing inrstigation.
