Paintings come to life in new Limassol exhibition

A different kind of exhibition will hit Limassol next month as it blends paintings with AR technology, bringing its art to life and engaging visitors with the artwork. Titled Games We Play, the exhibition is set to open at Art Studio 55 on May 18 and for three days only it invites the public to have an alternative art experience.

“You might be thinking, why go to the opening of yet another art exhibition?” ask organisers. “Seeing the paintings and drinking wine is fine, but it’s 15 minutes. Is it worth going somewhere on a Thursday night? The exhibition Games We Play will change your idea of what you can do in a gallery.”

Using AR technology, a series of tech-art games will be presented where visitors can use their smartphones to access the experiences. “Games of the mind and imagination, social games, games of love – and the ones we still play like children,” add organisers. “Each artwork is the beginning of a story proposed by an artist, but the entire line of the game, its finale, and even the rules are up to you. Don’t forget to bring your smartphone to the gallery as it will be the main revival tool.”

More than 50 paintings by 13 artists based in Cyprus will be exhibited. Some of the activities of the exhibition will have visitors hold their phone camera up to the painting to watch them come to life, assemble painting puzzles and try a ‘game for introverts’ by looking for words, objects, and differences in the paintings as they move around the exhibit.

The artists will also be present at the exhibition offering tours of the exhibition while a party with a DJ, drinks and finger food takes place. The Games We Play, curated by Elena Nazarova, will run only on May 18, 19 and 20.
