Famagusta CID and drug squad (Ykan) on Sunday arrested a man for possession of a weapon and cannabis in Larnaca, while later in the day another man, who appears to be an accomplice, was arrested after he was found in possession of cannabis oil.

According to police spokesman Christos Andreou, the first suspect, 21, was stopped on a Larnaca village road at around 5pm and a search of his vehicle turned up over 20kg of cannabis.

Officers then searched the man’s residence based on a court warrant and found a pistol with its magazine, 11 firearm casings, an unfired cartridge, and an additional 21kg cannabis inside the house. All items were confiscated for testing and the man was re-arrested.

Another 57-year-old man was arrested around 5.30pm while driving, after a search of his vehicle turned up a syringe of cannabis oil.

Both men are expected to appear before court on Monday, while the investigation is ongoing.
