Art during exile and displacement

belonging exhibition

Bringing together artistic practices and international exchange centring around exile and displacement, the ASSEMBLE programme presents a new exhibition in Nicosia. The group exhibition will take over Goethe-Institut on March 22-24 to present artworks and dialogues that focus on the rights of artists whose practice has been disrupted by forced migration and the role of culture within refugee support.

A day of curatorial tours will also take place as will an event bringing the artists together in conversation.

Titled Belonging, the three-day exhibition goes beyond borders to feature the work of artists whose creative practices, and life, have been disrupted by forced migration and who have had to adapt to new environments and pursue their art despite the challenges.

Five selected artworks from the original virtual exhibition will be presented along with a new contribution by a Cypriot artist. Curated by Shirin Zeraaty, participating artists are Myriam Dalal, Alia Gargum, Oleksandra Lytvyn, Amak Mahmoodian, Zariq Rosita Hanif and Efi Savvides. On the second and penultimate day of the exhibition, a guided tour with the curator will be held at 11am in conversation with three of the artists (Amak Mahmoodian, Myriam Dalal and Efi Savvides).
