Coronavirus: Three deaths and 128 new cases

Three deaths and 128 new cases of the coronavirus were announced on Wednesday.

Hospitalisations dropped to 155 with 52 patients in serious condition. Thirty-three patients are intubated.

The three deaths were one woman, aged 76, and two men, aged 80 and 84. They all had underlying health conditions. This brings the number of deaths from Covid-19 to 193: 130 men and 63 women with an average age of 80 years.

Wednesday’s cases were among 12,133 tests, rapid tests and PCR ones. The positivity rate is now at 1.05 per cent, the health ministry said.

In total 1,756 tests were processed with the molecular method (PCR) and the rest were rapid tests.

Of the 128 new cases, 48 were detected through contact tracing, 19 concern people who got tested privately while three were among samples processed in state hospitals’ labs. One case was among samples taken among people referred for testing by their physicians and tests among special groups.

Another 57 cases were found positive through rapid tests. Among these, two cases were among tests in private businesses and three are people working in the public sector. In the Limassol district, 29 positive cases were detected, a positivity rate of 1.67 per cent, 10 in Larnaca (1.15 per cent), 10 in Nicosia (0.36 per cent), two in the Famagusta district (1.23 per cent) and one in Paphos (0.33 per cent).

This brings the total number of cases so far to 30,380.
