Customs department seized eight vehicles in February

Customs seized eight vehicles in February, most for them for using coloured diesel and one for the illegal transport of duty-free tobacco products from the north, it said on Tuesday.

According to the customs department almost 2,000 litres of coloured diesel were seized during coordinated raids with the mobile control unit of the road transport department.

Customs also seized 46,160 cigarettes last month, 23.6 kilos of tobacco and 1,800 heated tobacco pieces.

It also seized 1,421 items such as clothing, shoes, handbags and wallets, that violate the intellectual property law.

A person saw €42,500 they had on them at the airport seized by Customs for failing to declare it before their departure from Cyprus.

Other items confiscated due to bans and restrictions concerned face masks, thermometers, seeds, steroids, pharmaceuticals, vapes and accessories, electronic devices but also electric scooters and bicycles.

Most of the cases have been settled through out-of-court fines, Customs said.
