Coronavirus: Paphos police investigating after man livestreams from party

A 30-year-old man on Tuesday confessed that he attended a party at a house in Paphos despite coronavirus restrictions, while a woman is due in court on Wednesday for attending the Limassol carnival gathering.

The man admitted to the police that the party in Paphos, which was attended by 25-30 people, had charged entry for drinks.

Those present allegedly paid €20 entry with one drink or €50 entry for an open bar.

Paphos police began investigations into the incident after the 30-year-old had livestreamed from the party.

When questioned by police, he confessed that on March 13 he went with a friend to a house in Paphos where the party was held.

The Cyprus News Agency reported that the 30-year-old will receive an out-of-court fine while Paphos police will continue investigations to identify the man’s friend and the organisers of the party.

In a separate case, a 29-year-old woman is due in Limassol’s district court on Wednesday for allegedly violating health decrees after attending the carnival gathering which took place at the old port in Limassol on Sunday.

According to Limassol police spokesman Lefteris Kyriacou the woman was identified in a video. It was reported that she admitted to having attended the event and has apologised.

She is accused of not wearing a mask, participating in an illegal gathering, not sending an SMS and breaking the then 9pm curfew.

According to reports, there were around 1,500 people there. Restaurants in the area were also found to be open and have been fined.
