How NASA plans to save earth from asteroids

Doomsday scenarios in sci-fi movies have often featured massive asteroids smashing into our home planet and causing incalculable damage. Not the most comforting thought for earthlings, to be sure!

Fortunately, in real life, there are scientists working to head off such a possibility.

In this video, we learn about the Double Asteroid Redirection Test… NASA’s first test of a “kinetic impactor” that could one day be used to save earth from an incoming asteroid.

Andy Rivkin, an asteroid expert with The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, explains how to smash into giant space rocks and possibly save human civilisation.
