A 37-year-old man is in hospital after suffering multiple fractures in his legs and pelvis after falling into a ravine near Athienou on Monday while paragliding.

The fire service and the police responded to an urgent call from the Larnaca fire station and a team from the Larnaca joint rescue coordination centre (JRCC) was immediately dispatched to the location where the man fell.

He was immobilised, roped and transported by helicopter to the Nicosia general hospital, where he is currently being treated for his injuries.

Fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis posted a video of the operation on his Twitter profile, thanking all members of the JRCC team involved in the operation.
