Warning issued over facemask safety

The labour inspection department issued a safety warning on Friday concerning a face mask sold in the European Union market.

Swiss Myfixmask protective mask with the filter grade of N-95 “does not meet the current legislation setting out the essential safety and health requirements,” the department’s announcement said.

The retention of particles by the filter is insufficient with a measured value ≤ 49 per cent.

“As a result, excessive amounts of particles or microorganisms can pass through the mask, increasing the risk of infection if not combined with additional protection measures,” it was added.

Consumers were called on to contact the department on 22405663, 22405603 or 22405604 in case they identify the specific mask in the local market.
