First year primary school children given trees to plant

Ruling party Disy on Monday donated mastic trees to the forestry department to be distributed to first grade primary school students nationwide.

As part of the one million trees initiative of the party, Disy’s parliamentary spokesman Nicos Tornaritis visited the forestry department on Monday to submit the donation of the small trees which in collaboration with the education ministry will be shared among all first-grade primary school children.

The students will be able to replant their mastic trees at a location of their choosing including their school or house garden in the upcoming planting season in October or November.

The initiative was announced last month in line with the Disy’s Green Deal and includes the planting of one million trees in the next three years to tackle climate change and to plant the “seeds of hope” for a united Cyprus.

Tornaritis, talking at the Forestry Department, said that in this way, the party will “make a real change in our country. With actions”.

The head of forestry Charalambos Alexandrou welcomed the donation as an act of support for the department’s work.
