The WWF’s 2021-22 One Planet City Challenge

In this video we learn about the latest edition of the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF’s) One Planet City Challenge (OPCC).

In 2011, WWF launched the OPCC competition in order to mobilise action from cities in the global transition toward a one-planet future – a future where nature and people thrive within earth’s ecological limits.

The OPCC is the largest and longest running competition of its kind, with close to 600 cities from 53 countries having participated in the decade since its inception, reporting their goals and actions to reduce carbon emissions and build local resilience in line with the targets set forth in the Paris Agreement.

The 2016 Paris Agreement is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, whose goal is to limit global warming to well below 2, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels.
