Man wanted in Russia arrested on arrival at Paphos airport

A 51-year-old man wanted by the Russian authorities was arrested on Thursday night by police in Paphos.

According to the police, the Russian authorities had issued an arrest warrant against the suspect in relation to a case of illegal storage of precious metals and precious stones or pearls, organising their transportation, as well as illegal storage of a large quantity of drugs.

The offences occurred between 2005 and 2010 in Russia.

The 51-year-old arrived on the island on Thursday night on a flight that arrived in Paphos and at passport control, police realised he was a wanted man, at which point he was arrested.
