Coronavirus: 44 citizens and four businesses booked

Cyprus police handed out fines to 44 citizens and four establishment owners during the last 24 hours for violating measures aiming to contain the spread of Covid-19.

A police spokesperson told the Cyprus News Agency that a total of 5,946 checks were conducted islandwide from 6am on Sunday until 6am on Monday.

One coffee restaurant owner in Nicosia was booked for serving clients after closing time. In Paphos, an owner of a restaurant was fined because the staff were not using face masks and there were no signs on the floor for keeping distances. In addition, an owner of a coffee bar was fined because clients were crowding indoors and an owner of a snack bar for violating the permitted time that it could be open and because clients were dancing without keeping any distance between them.

In Nicosia the police carried out 1,647 checks and booked five citizens and one establishment owner, in Limassol 1,345 checks and reported 21 citizens, in Larnaca 521 checks and booked 10 citizens.

In Paphos the police reported three citizens and three establishment owners after conducting 795 checks and in Famagusta one citizen after carrying out 632 checks.

In Morphou the police carried out 513 checks without reporting anyone.

Moreover, the Traffic Department conducted 368 checks and booked four citizens and the Port and Marine Police 125 checks without reporting anyone.
