Police fined 24 people, including one business owner, for violating coronavirus measures after 4,757 checks across the island in the 24 hours leading up to 6am on Saturday.

The majority of checks concerned Nicosia.

Officers in the capital fined six people and one business owner after 1,700 checks.

Limassol saw five violations after 503 checks, and Larnaca four after 617 checks, while no violations were reported in Paphos after 398 checks.

Most violations were reported in Famagusta where officers carried out 562 checks and fined eight people.

No violations were reported in Morphou after 561 checks, nor by the port police or the marine police after 384 and 32 checks respectively.

Breaches in coronavirus protocols include failure to wear a face mask and breaking the midnight curfew. Businesses are checked whether they abide by the measures set for workplaces, including distances between tables, the maximum number of people allowed and carrying the coronavirus signs.
