Two drivers were caught speeding on the Limassol-Nicosia highway on Tuesday night, with the first found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and the second testing positive for drugs, the Cyprus News Agency reported.

The speed limit on the motorway is 100 km per hour. Police first flagged down a 41-year-old man who was doing 182 km per hour near the Tseri exit at around 11.40 pm. He was also found to be more than twice the legal limit for alcohol, with 55μg%, rather than 22μg%.

He was arrested and was expected to appear in court today for an immediate hearing on drunk driving.

About an hour later at the same location, police stopped a 22-year-old man who was driving at 149 km per hour and who tested positive for drugs. He was taken to the local police station for a second, conclusive drug test.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, a 37-year-old driver stopped for checks at the Ochi roundabout in Nicosia was found to be more than four times over the legal limit at 91μg%.

He was arrested to appear in court today for an immediate hearing for drunk driving.
