Coronavirus: TCs received another 50,000 Covid jabs from Turkey

The northern part of the island received an additional 50,000 Sinovac Chinese coronavirus vaccine doses from Turkey.

The vaccines were delivered with a special flight, bringing the total number of doses that Turkey send to the north to 190,000.

Turkish Cypriot authorities aim to vaccinate 70 per cent of the adult population and to fully vaccinate the academic personnel as well as those employed in the tourist industry by autumn, Turkish Cypriot ‘prime minister’ Ersan Saner wrote on his social media.

So far, 18 per cent of the adult population in the north have been vaccinated according to the statements of health minister Unal Ustel in a webcast the previous day. He added that 139,621 out of the 140,000 doses received from Turkey were administered.

Ustel said that the aim is to be able to receive tourists without a double PCR test or isolation upon arrival by next month, once 40 to 50 per cent of the population eligible for vaccination receive the jab.
