Sleeping on the edge: vertical camping’s vertiginous rush

Perhaps you have a head for heights; perhaps you’re partial to camping and rock-climbing. But how far would you go to combine it all, if you had to bed down dangling over a sheer cliff-drop for accommodation?

Believe it or not, today, the phenomenon of ‘vertical camping’ draws adrenaline junkies and climbing newbies alike, and in this video, we follow Euromaxx reporter Axel Primavesi as he prepares to spend a night in a portaledge, suspended over a drop of nearly 200m, off the side of northern Austria’s Urlkopf mountain.

A portaledge is a deployable hanging tent system designed for rock climbers who spend multiple days and nights on a big wall climb.
