114 domestic violence complaints, 50 arrests in Paphos in four months

The Paphos police domestic violence unit has received 114 complaints in four months, leading to 50 arrests and around 30 restraining orders, the district’s CID chief said on Tuesday.

According to Michalis Ioannou, since its creation on February 15, the unit has received 114 complaints involving 129 complainants.

He said charges have been filed against 116 people, while the force arrested 50 suspects. It has also secure restraining orders involving 28 people.

The unit is made up of eight officers but, when necessary, it is reinforced with officers from the CID who make arrests and help in submitting cases to court but do not take statements.

That is the work of the unit’s officers who are trained to provide victims with help.
