Manhunt after Limassol murder leads to arrest (update 2)

murder scene

Limassol police arrested a 33-year-old man on Monday morning on suspicion of the murder of a 58-year-old man in Limassol.

The man appears to have met Christos Siakos and his son, 28, just before 6am on Monday between the villages of Moni and Monagroulli.

According to reports, the two younger men started fighting, when Siakos tried to intervene. But the 33-year-old man managed to steal some cash from the 28-year-old before getting into his car. He then drove into the father, who was on foot, resulting in his fatal injury.

The suspect, who lives in Larnaca, had fled the scene and was found a few hours later.

A police spokesperson told the Cyprus Mail the three, who are all Greek Cypriots, had financial differences. Media reports suggested the two met the suspect to buy drugs.

Police cordoned off the crime scene and are assessing the material from the security cameras of a nearby kiosk.

The 33-year-old is faced with charges for premeditated murder and theft.
