Coronavirus: Police say issue with staff not having SafePass

Police said there is still an issue with employees working without a SafePass as they announced early on Friday 33 people and five businesses were booked for violating coronavirus measures, after about 3,800 nationwide checks.

Between 6am on Thursday and 6am on Friday police booked 33 individuals and two businesses in Nicosia, two in Paphos and one in Larnaca, police spokesman Christos Andreou told the CyBC.

The fines for businesses concerned one case where an employee was found working without a SafePass, as well as staff not wearing a face mask, or customers exceeding the maximum capacity of the establishment based on the health protocols, Andreou said.

“Unfortunately, there is a phenomenon of non-compliance with the measures,” he said.

During the checks, police also reported two establishments, in Paphos and Famagusta, found operating without a licence and later the court suspended their operation.

Paphos district court suspended the operation of a Paphos-based night club until the first hearing of the case on August 11, Andreou said on Friday.

The establishment was found operating without a licence and also violating coronavirus restrictions, as there were people dancing and sitting on the bar.

In such cases, the local authorities are also informed, the officer said.
