Police investigate holiday weekend burglaries

Police on Monday said they are investigating a series of burglaries reported in Limassol and Paphos over the August 15 holiday weekend.

A 55-year-old woman reported that her house in Ayia Marina was broken into between 1pm on August 15 and 1am on August 16.

According to her statement, jewellery worth €52,900 and €5,000 in cash were stolen from the safe in her house.

Polis Chrysochous officers arrived at the scene and collected evidence to help identify the thieves.

They said burglars entered the house through a sliding balcony door which was closed but not locked.

Another burglary was reported on Monday by a 62-year-old woman who said that €40,000 in cash were stolen from her house in Ayio Spyridona, Limassol.

She said the theft took place between 9.45 and 10.50am.

Police who examined the house said the burglars entered through the kitchen window which they violated.
