Coronavirus: Police investigating death threats against member of scientific team

The police cybercrime unit is investigating reports of death threats made against Zoe Dorothea Pana, one of the government’s coronavirus advisors.

The alleged death threat was reportedly sent to Pana via email and was centred on her work as an advisor to the government during the ongoing pandemic.

Pana told local media that she understands the anger of what people are going through amidst the pandemic but stated that as a scientist she supports the measures which she has learned through her profession and believes are effective.

Earlier in the pandemic, back in April 2020, then-government advisor Leontios Kostrikis was also subject to threats.

A 35-year-old man in Nicosia was arrested for threatening phone calls allegedly made against Kostrikis.
