Coronavirus: one new death, 136 people test positive on Saturday (Updated)

The health ministry announced that one person had died of Covid-19 and that 136 more had tested positive from 70,628 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 0.19 per cent.

The death concerned a woman aged 64 who died on Friday at the Nicosia general hospital. This brings total deaths to 528 with an average age of 76.4.

There are 106 people in hospitals of whom 43 are in serious condition. Of these, 16 are intubated.

The ministry said that the percentage of unvaccinated patients was 83.9 per cent.

Of the 70,628 tests carried out on Saturday, 4,584 were PCR and 66,044 rapid tests, yielding 136 positives as follows: 

  • 6 from 2,202 tests at airports 
  • 37 from 2,220 samples tested through private initiative.
  • 6 from 162 samples processed at hospital labs 
  • 62 from 51,614 tests done at private labs and pharmacies, where most unvaccinated people get tested since they were excluded from the free testing. These tests yielded a positivity rate of  0.12 per cent
  • 25 from 14,430  tests done under the free testing offered by the ministry to unvaccinated people with exemptions, and vaccinated people at various stages of the process. The positivity rate under the free testing was 0.17.
