Temperatures expected to soar back to around 38C

Cyprus looks like it’s heading for an Indian summer with temperatures expected to soar back up to 38C next week, according to the KitasWeather website.

Meteorologist Eric Kitas told the Cyprus Mail that it is not yet clear when this next wave of heat will pass but he is predicting not until around September 24-25.

“The temperature rise is normal and will be around 4C higher in the coming days. “In general, there is not much deviation from the average levels,” he said.

On Saturday, the weather is expected to be sunny islandwide except in the mountains where a few clouds will develop at noon and in the afternoon.

The temperature will rise around the normal levels for the season, reaching around 32C to 35C in the interior lowlands, around 30C to 34C on the coast, and around 20C in the mountains.

Kitas says that this September is not comparable to last year which was the hottest September ever recorded for Cyprus.

“Last year was the worst month in terms of hot temperatures. This year it has not even approached those levels, while in terms of rainfall this year we have already reached 145 per cent of normal for the season,” he concluded.

Sunday will be mainly fine, while in the mountains a few clouds will develop at noon and in the afternoon.
On Monday and Tuesday, sunny weather is expected to continue. The temperature will rise slightly further on Monday and change significantly on Tuesday, where it will be at levels well above normal for the season, reaching or exceeding 37C-38C inland.
