Coronavirus: No deaths, 117 new cases (updated)

No deaths from coronavirus were recorded on Tuesday, while 117 new cases were found.

The total death toll remains at 548.

Meanwhile, 94 patients are in hospital being treated for Covid, of which 39 are in a serious condition, including 16 who are intubated.

Of those in hospital, 73.41 per cent have not been vaccinated.

There are also 10 post-Covid patients who continue to receive treatment in an ICU.

A total of 53,935 tests were carried out, meaning the 117 positives reflect a positivity rate of 0.22 per cent.

The new cases concern 17 people found positive during contact tracing, 28 people who got PCR tests privately, 38 who got rapid tests privately, and five among samples processed in state hospitals’ labs.

Seven cases concern passengers at Paphos and Larnaca airports.

Another 22 were among the rapid tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. Of these, four were detected during testing in high schools – two in Nicosia and two in Limassol.

The rest concern nine cases found in Nicosia out of 2,803 tests, four in Limassol (815), two in Larnaca (786), one in Paphos (448) and two in the Famagusta district (283).

The total number of cases seen since the start of the pandemic is 119,230.
