Former bishop denies indecent assault

File photo: Larnaca court

Former bishop of Kition Chrysostomos on Thursday denied indecently assaulting an underage female back in 1981.

Chrysostomos appeared before the Larnaca district court where he was charged with indecent assault against a minor in November 1981.

The court adjourned for January 17, 2022.

The 83-year-old cleric is also awaiting a verdict in a separate case regarding the rape of a woman in 2011.

The offence allegedly took place in his office.

The verdict is scheduled to be issued on October 22.

The rape claim was submitted to the police after a public sexual abuse report in Greece spurred a nationwide MeToo movement which encouraged many people to report similar incidents.
