Almost 500 booked for driving violations in police campaign

Police reported 496 drivers for various traffic violations during a crackdown across the Republic between 7pm Friday and 6am Saturday.

According to a statement, the bookings included 228 for speeding, 25 for using a mobile phone while driving, 16 for failure to wear a seatbelt or crash helmet, and nine for drink driving.

Twenty drivers were also reported for illegal parking.

Officers also reported five drivers for not having a valid MOT and 40 who had not paid their road tax.

Fifteen drivers were issued written warnings for various other violations.
