Coronavirus: Three businesses fined €1,500 after 3,035 checks

Three businesses were fined a total of €1,500 in Nicosia and Limassol for violating coronavirus measures, police said on Friday.

One kiosk and one betting shop in Nicosia were booked for €500 each, after the manager was found working without a SafePass, while a Limassol-based mini market was also booked for the same amount because the manager was working without a facemask.

The fines were part of 3,035 nationwide checks that were carried out between 6am on Thursday and 6am on Friday.

A total of 16 individuals were also booked during the checks.

Six people were booked in Limassol after 213 checks, five in Famagusta after 427 checks, three in Nicosia after 1,113 checks and two in Larnaca after 552 checks.

No violations were reported in Morphou or in Paphos after 296 and 143 checks respectively.

Traffic, marine and port police also conducted 164 and 127 checks respectively, without any bookings.

Individuals may be fined for failing to wear a facemask or carry a SafePass.
