Coronavirus: No deaths, 162 new cases (updated)

No deaths and 162 new Covid-19 cases were recorded on Tuesday by the health ministry.

The 162 cases were detected among 51,892 PCR and rapid tests, with positivity rate of 0.31 per cent.

There are 57 patients with Covid-19 in hospital, 18 of whom in serious condition, including six who are intubated. Around six in 10 hospitalisations, 63.1 per cent, concern people who are not vaccinated, the ministry said.

Nine of the new cases concern passengers at Larnaca and Paphos airports.

Most the cases, 58, are people who got rapid tests privately while another 26 got PCR tests also in the private sector.

Four concern samples processed in public hospitals’ labs and 27 were detected during contact tracing.

The remaining 38 were among the rapid tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. Among these, 14 were detected during tests in high schools: 11 in Limassol, one in Nicosia and two in Paphos. Another one was found in a Nicosia primary school.

Twelve more cases were detected in the Nicosia district out of 1,939 tests, seven in Limassol (749), one in Larnaca (498), two in Paphos (318) and one in the Famagusta district (121).

This brings the number of cases so far to 123,708.

So far 570 deaths were recorded: 363 men and 207 women with average age of 76.1 years.

In the north 131 cases were announced out of 21,169 tests.
