Coronavirus: 27 fines after 2,576 checks

A total of 27 people were booked in the last 24 hours for violating coronavirus measures, police said early on Wednesday.

The fines came after 2,576 controls in the government-controlled areas carried out between 6am on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday.

Most checks, 1,102, were carried out by officers in the capital who booked nine people, while seven people were booked in Limassol after just 200 checks.

Larnaca officers booked two people following 488 checks in the district, Paphos police four after 181 inspections, and five more people were booked in Famagusta after 358 checks.

No violations were reported by Morphou officers, traffic, marine and port police.

According to police, breaches of coronavirus protocols include failure to wear a facemask and carry a SafePass among others.
