Police arrest burglary suspects

Famagusta police said Thursday they arrested two men after finding burglary tools in their car, which was also without registration plates.

The suspects, 20 and 21, were arrested after traffic officers spotted them driving in a car without registration plates at around 2pm on Wednesday in Paralimni.

The 20-year-old driver ignored the officers’ signal to stop and accelerated instead, driving recklessly and dangerously, in a bid to escape.

He was intercepted by the police a few minutes later and submitted to a narcotest that was positive.

During a search of the car, police found various burglary tools including a screwdriver, hammer, axe, flashlight and a metal cutter.

Both men were arrested, charged and then released pending a court appearance.
