Man fined €6,000 over duty free stash found

police

A 38-year-old man was fined €6,000 after almost 70 packages of duty-free tobacco and cigarettes were found in his possession.

The man was stopped for a check while driving in Limassol. During a search in his car, police found 34 packs of cigarettes, ten packs of shisha tobacco, one kilo of shisha tobacco and 35 packages of tobacco.

Suspicions were raised that duties have not been paid for the products as they did not carry the necessary signages.

Officers transferred the man to the police station where an officer of the customs department was called and confirmed that no taxes have been paid for the products.
