Woman hospitalised after crashing with driver four times over the limit

A 21-year-old woman has been hospitalised in Paphos following a car accident with a drunk driver, police said early on Friday.

According to police spokesman Michalis Ioannou, the accident occurred around 3.40pm on Thursday on Apostolou Pavlou avenue when, under conditions that are being investigated, a 21-year-old man in a rented car crashed into the car of the young woman.

The injured Paphos resident was transferred to Paphos general hospital where she was kept for treatment at the surgical ward.

Her condition was described as stable by her doctors, police said.

The male driver underwent a preliminary alcohol test with an indication of 93μg, more than four times over the maximum permitted limit of 22μg.

Then, he was then transferred to the Paphos traffic police for a second alcotest however he failed to provide a specimen.

He is being investigated for negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged, police added.
