Game wardens rescue mouflons (video)

mouflons

Game and fauna service officers rescued two mouflons in the buffer zone after their horns became entangled.

According to a social media post, UNFICYP officers spotted the two male mouflons within the buffer zone, near Xeros river.

The rams, which are shown in a video posted by the service on their Facebook page, appeared distressed, and were running together with their horns entangled.

mouflosn disentangled

Officers from the game and fauna service arrived on the scene and “after a very difficult effort” managed to disentangle the mouflons’ horns “without them presenting any problem”.

It added that the “rare incident” coincides with the end of the breeding season for the mouflons when sometimes the horns of male adult rams fighting for domination reasons might become entangled.

This can sometimes kill the mouflons, the service said.
