Limassol police arrested a 54-year-old man on Wednesday on suspicion of killing protected bird species and illegal possession of live hares.

Police launched an investigation last week after a dead Bonelli’s eagle was found near a Limassol village.

Investigators were led to the suspect’s home, which they searched and found two other dead wild birds – and eagle and a hawk – three live hares in a cage, 101 limesticks used in bird trapping, two shotguns, and various other objects.

The man was arrested just before 12pm on Wednesday.
