Coronavirus: Pandemic manageable in Cyprus at the moment says minister

health

The pandemic in Cyprus is manageable, Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantelas said on Sunday, adding that there are three scenarios already set up in case it gets any worse.

“At this moment the situation is under control and we check on it several times a day, Hadjipantelas said after visiting Paphos general hospital.

He said the hospitals were not under undue pressure at the moment.

Visiting with chairman of the board of Okypy Marios Panayides, Hadjipantelas said the purpose of the visit was to see for themselves how prepared the hospital is and to show their support to medical workers there.

He said the ministry of health and the government is by their side and will do all it can to help.

The minister also thanked them for their efforts over the last two years of which, he said, they could feel proud.

Thanking staff, Panayides said “with cooperation we can have a lot of success”.

As far as the pandemic is concerned, Hadjipantelas said nothing different is happening in Cyprus than the rest of the world.

“The important thing with these cases is to watch those hospitalised,” he added.

The Covid ward at Paphos general hospital currently has 21 patients but four are expected to leave by the of Sunday.

General director of Okypy for Limassol and Paphos Christos Nicolaou said that a new blood transfusion unit will be operable at the Paphos hospital by the end of 2022.

The main aim of the unit is to offer high quality, modern service to patients.
