Man jailed for nine years on drug charges

Limassol court

Limassol criminal court on Friday sentenced a 45-year-old man to nine years in prison after finding him guilty of illegal possession of drugs.

It follows a police search of a home in May 2021 where officers discovered 22 cannabis plants in a specially adapted space and more than 12 kilos of cannabis.

Acting on a tip off, anti-narcotic squad officers had stopped the man as he was driving in Limassol and searched his car where they found 1.4 kilos of cannabis.

He was arrested for illegal possession of drugs and his house was searched where police found an indoor greenhouse with special lighting and ventilation and 22 cannabis plants under cultivation. They also found 12.3 kilos of cannabis, €300 in cash and other evidence.
